	Obscure Street Fighter II Anime Now Available in English

  

26 years ago, an obscure Street Fighter II anime short titled "Street Fighter II - Return to the Fujiwara Capital: The Fighters Who Leapt Through Time" was released to coincide with an exhibition in Japan's Nara Prefecture in 1995. Produced by Studio Pierrot, the 22-minute short (originally released on VHS only in Japan) serves as an educational movie about the history of Fujiwara — the Imperial capital of Japan from 694 to 710. In the anime... Ryu, Ken Masters, Chun-Li and E. Honda are sent back in time through a mysterious vortex and end up visiting various historical locations to learn about them. Unfortunately, there's no fighting in the anime... but now with English subtitles, it's worth a watch for Street Fighter fans and historians.     Also worth mentioning... the end of the movie displays a plethora of original character sketches — in a style reminiscent of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. (Definitely worth a look for artists and Street Fighter art enthusiasts!)  Besides the original release in 1995, the film was bundled in a DVD box set in 2004 alongside the complete collection of Masaomi Kanzaki's Street Fighter II: Ryu manga.
