Terry and his
brother
Andy grew up as orphans and
raised themselves on the streets. They are later adopted by Jeff Bogard and live
in Southtown for several years. During this time, Jeff Bogard teaches the brothers many
things about fighting, as he was a strong fighter himself. When Terry was 10
years old, he witnesses his father's death at the hands of
Geese
Howard. Afterwards, Terry and Andy vow to avenge their father and dedicate themselves to mastering their martial arts training. Master Tung
Fu Rue
tells the brothers that the strongest of them will be taught the secrets
of Hakyokusaken. Andy decides to move to Japan for his training, while Terry chooses
to stay in the USA to hone his skills on the streets.
A decade later, Geese
Howard organizes the King of Fighters tournament in Southtown. Terry, Andy and
Muay Thai Kickboxer Joe
Higashi enter with a mission to defeat Geese. Terry ends up defeating Geese and
thought that he killed him at the time. A year later, Geese's half-brother Wolfgang
Krauser takes control of the tournament, bringing it to the world stage.
Once again, Terry makes it to the finals and manages to defeat Krauser. With his victory,
he becomes a hero and a legend of Southtown. Around this time, he acquires his nickname "The Legendary Wolf" along with "Southtown's Hero".
During the events of Real
Bout Fatal Fury, Terry finds out that Geese survived their previous battle.
The Bogard Brothers then learn of Geese's intentions to retrieve the legendary
Jin scrolls and set out to take him down. Along the way, Terry defeats Yamazaki,
Chonrei,
Chonshu, and finally, Geese himself. After their battle, Geese
manages
to escape with the scrolls. Terry encounters him again some time later and
after an intense battle, he knocks Geese off the edge of Geese Tower. Terry
quickly grabs hold of Geese's hand to prevent him from falling to his death...
however, Geese knocks Terry's hand away and presumably fell to his permanent
death. Years after their final conflict, Terry encounters a boy named
Rock Howard.
After realizing that Rock is Geese Howard's son, Terry decides to adopt him and teach him martial arts to
keep Rock from going down the wrong path in life.
In The King of Fighters timeline, after Terry had defeated Geese and Krauser, he receives an invitation to enter the KOF '94 Tournament. For
many years, Terry is the team leader of the Fatal Fury Team. Even
though the team's roster changed over the years, Terry has always been
present and took part in every single King of Fighters tournament to date.
Through being a prominent figure in the KOF tournament over the years, he
develops
friendships with several fighters such as:
Blue
Mary,
Tizoc,
Duck
King, and also shares a friendly rivalry with Ryo
Sakazaki.
After the events of the Real Bout series, in Second Southtown, Kain
R. Heinlein, claims the city as his own and threatens to throw populace
into chaos so that people could "enjoy living" once more. Kain hosts
and sponsors The King of Fighters: Maximum Mayhem tournament, and Terry and
Rock are sent an invitation. They both make it to the finals. When Terry
arrives, he
surprisingly finds Rock standing with Kain. Terry accepts Rock's decision to become Kain's new partner, as Rock promised to
return. Afterwards, it is presumed that Terry returns to his life of being
the lone wolf.

It
took a while for Terry to fully develop as a design. In the early days, his cheesy,
horribly-translated win quotes and genericness held back his design. However, once
Terry developed, nothing would stop this old school fighting game hero. His original attire was always kinda plain, very "90s",
and a bit before its time (back in the day)... but as the years passed, Terry's style
eventually became vintage, and ultimately, cool. Terry was
always a solid and recognizable hero of the Fatal Fury series. He had an awesome run in
the KOF series as well, which redefined and further fleshed out his design.
My favorite appearance of Terry's was in a little game called Garou: Mark of the
Wolves. His new threads in Garou advanced his design yet again, but
kept close enough to his original appearance to keep the nostalgia intact. His
badass new moves new moves & animations in Garou also redefined
him... "Ahhhh you Okay!? Bustaaah Wolf!!!!" I also loved Terry in the Capcom VS SNK
series (he was one of my mains).
Capcom did an amazing job with his 2D sprite & animations. Terry has had
many great appearances in fighting games, and time has proven that he is a timeless
character and a true fighting game icon.
