Street Fighter V Reaches 6 Million Sales, New Edition with All Characters DLC Announced for Japan
|
|
This week, Capcom announced
Street Fighter V has achieved over 6 million worldwide sales since its original launch back in February 2016 —
technically making it the second best-selling title in the series history following Street Fighter II's 6.3 million sold on SNES. However, it's important to note that the 6 million figure includes all versions of SFV, from the original version to
Arcade Edition and
Champion Edition. On SNES alone,
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior sold 6.3 million units. To be precise, if sales for all console versions of SF2 were calculated, it would amount to just over 14 million. Even so, Capcom's half-decade of marketing of SFV, pivot towards prioritizing eSports, and original promise that fans
would only have to buy "one disc" has proven successful in the current generation of fighting games. With the continued promotion of SFV: Champion Edition, strong tournament scene, and new character
Luke releasing soon, it's likely SFV's sales will surpass SFII's 6.3 million in the next year or so.
Additionally, Capcom announced a new edition of Street Fighter V: Champion Edition will be released in Japan on December 9th, 2021. This version (dubbed SFV: Champion Edition All Characters Pack) will
include all previously released DLC characters, including new character
Luke, along with 200 costumes and 23 stages. There is currently no word on whether or not a similar "complete" version will be released outside of Japan.
