BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II

STORYA few days have passed since the reported raid by Ragna the Bloodedge, The 13th Hierarchical City "Kagutsuchi" forgets to celebrate New Years, as his alleged involvement in the "Mysterious Bombing" and "Huge Pentacle Sightings" becomes the talk of the town. With the Novus Orbis Librarium offering no official explanation, the citizens voice their own theories, exaggerating and spreading rumors like wildfire. The name "Ragna the Bloodedge" is engraved in the minds of the people. Completely indifferent to the state of the city, the silver-haired Grim Reaper grips his massive sword and quietly bides his time-waiting for the chance to achieve his true objective; and then, the enormous "power" that has ensnared the "Grim Reaper" begins to activate...

A condensed version of BlazBlue came to Nintendo DS and PSP.

ABOUT
:  The sequel to BlazBlue: Continuum Shift hit arcades in late 2010 and was released for PSN, XBL, PSP & Nintendo 3DS in Summer off 2011. I'd recommend sticking with the console versions, because the PSP & 3DS ports are downgraded in visual quality (the 3DS version looks like crap). Continuum Shift II rebalances the roster and includes the previously console exclusive character μ-12 in addition to the 3 DLC characters: Makoto, Valkenhayn and Platinum.

Continuum Shift II
features the following modes: Tutorial, Arcade, Versus, Score Attack, Training, Challenge, Legion, Abyss, Story, Gallery, Network and Options. Abyss Mode is a sort of RPG style playthrough where p
layers work their way down towards the Abyss of a multi floor city called Kagutsuchi. Players earn power up items by defeating enemies, which then can be used to power up your character. Story mode features 19 character stories. 17 return from BlazBlue Continuum Shift and 2 are brand new.

BOTTOM LINE

Final Words: I didn't review / rate this particular version of BlazBlue because it's really just a minor update to the original Continuum Shift at the end of the day... and would receive pretty much the same score as the prequel. On that note, I can't say I "approve" of Arc System Works' process of releasing DLC characters for this series. It's as if a "certain amount" of DLC characters equates to a sequel and a title update? It's a little confusing for those who aren't frequent to Japanese arcades... even for someone like me who follows fighting games.

I wish Arc System Works would actually take their time when releasing a "sequel" instead of asking fans to buy a very similar game several times over... just for a couple new characters and modes. ...and I thought the Guilty Gear days were over. Anyhow, be sure to check out my full review of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend on PSP.
