Jeanne D'Arc is a
swordswoman from the 15th-century France. A bearer of a tremendous beauty, she
roamed her land in search of a strong fighter to become her husband. However,
she continues her search in a different time now. She is based
off of Joan D'Arc or "Joan of Ark". Her name is spelled as "Janne"
in the World Heroes series, but in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, her
name appears as "Jeanne".
Alongside eight other
warriors, Doctor Brown invites Jeanne to the World Heroes tournament. Jeanne
accepts the invitation in hopes of finding a suitable man. She advances
through the tournament until she was put against Julius
Carn who managed to defeat her. Jeanne gets up and confesses to Julius
that she's finally found a man strong enough to defeat her, she aggressively
asks for a kiss but Julius runs away while telling her that she's not his type
of woman.
She enters the second
World Heroes tournament with the same goal of finding a suitable man but was
once again unsuccessful. After the third World Heroes tournament, she sees Ryoko
Izumo fawning over Hanzo,
she becomes irritated but quickly gets over after reassuring herself that
she's the queen. Fuuma
Kotaro approaches Jeanne and flirts with her, but Jeanne rejects his
attempt by knocking him out.

Jeanne D' Arc was
the first female knight to appear in a fighting game, even before Samurai
Shodown's Charlotte Colde. (Even
so, I always found Charlotte to be a more interesting and likeable design.)
However, I'll give Jeanne credit where credit is due. Although Jeanne is a rather
basic design, she actually wielded the whip-sword before the likes of Ivy
Valentine. Interestingly, Jeanne even has a few
of the same attacks as Ivy. While Jeanne deserves some credit for innovation, Ivy's moveset took the concept of
the whip-sword fighting style eons farther than Jeanne ever could in the 2D realm.
(Again, just giving credit where credit is due.)
To Jeanne's credit, she was still an innovative design as the first female
knight of fighting games, and a respectable design all around. She isn't
overly-sexualized, she has some entertaining win quotes, and she's pretty much a
"no BS" fighter (which is pretty refreshing in the World Heroes
series, particularly). That said, Janne is easily one of the coolest characters from World
Heroes.
