Concept
Artwork From Canceled "Power Stone-Style" WWE Fighting
Game (WWE Brawl)
|
|
A
3D "
Power Stone-style" fighting game featuring reimagined
designs of classic and current WWE superstars (titled WWE Brawl)
was planned for a 2012 release, but was eventually canceled. A batch of WWE
Brawl concept artwork created by Rich Lyons recently body-slammed the web,
showing off awesomely-detailed and "exaggerated" designs for several iconic
wrestlers, including: Stone Cold Steve Austin, Big Show, Hulk Hogan, Ted
Dibiase, The
Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, and even Vince McMahon (as the final
boss?) controlling a giant mech. Needless to say, it's a shame this project was canceled - because it had potential!
As you may know...
Here at The Fighters Generation, we don't actually cover wrestling
games (as they are not traditional fighting games). We also don't cover
"celebrity" fighting games of any kind (because having celebrity
TFG character profiles would just be weird). However, as an old school
pro-wrestling fan and 2D artwork connoisseur, I did find these concepts
post-worthy.
Awesome artwork!
Y'know, in addition to WWF Wrestlefest (1991) and WWF
Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game (1995), I actually enjoyed playing WWE
All Stars (2011) for a little while. That said, WWE Brawl's "arcade-y"
take on the typical wrestling game format seemed like it could've been
halfway entertaining. However, the gameplay did look pretty clunky from
the early footage (below), and might've been part of the reason it was
scrapped.

Fighting games
and pro-wrestling have had a deep-rooted bond since the earliest beginnings of
the genre. We've become accustomed to seeing fighting game characters
paying homage to various WWE icons in their movesets, but we're definitely
