Reiji Oyama is a reoccurring
character in the Power Instinct series. His design can be described as
somewhat of a parody of Ryu from Street
Fighter II. (In fact, Reiji's 2D sprite in the first Power Instinct
seemed liked it was almost "traced" from Ryu's original Street
Fighter II sprite.) In some manga adaptations of Power Instinct, he is
depicted as the protagonist of the story. In the first game, the 1P cursor
hovered over Reiji at the start of the selection screen. Because of this, he
was wrongly considered to be the main protagonist of Power Instinct (the real
protaginists being Oume and Otane.
Reiji is the typical serious karate practitioner. In the first Power
Instinct, Reiji's goal is to be as strong as his father was. Knowing about
the lineage of martial arts of the Goketsuji family, Reiji is sure that he
will find many worthy opponents and by facing them he will start his way to
becoming a true warrior.

"HEY RYU. .
. Let me borrow your homework. I'll change it up a little bit so it doesn't look
the same." -Reiji ^___^ Look at this guy. How could you hate a shoto in a
fighting game? Reiji's 2D sprite is such a beautifully terrible blatant rip-off
of the iconic Ryu. Osu!
Funny as he is, Reiji might be one of the most entertaining "Ryu
wannabes" out there just based on looks alone. I don't know what it is. He
reminds me of Kairi, although Reiji did
come first in the fighting game realm! Makes you wonder if Capcom used Reiji as
inspiration for Kairi? Back-atcha!? Either way, this character is a cheap
knock-off but also has enough personality to make care somehow. Y'know... I'll
main him in Power Instinct. I love shotos!
