Robert is the son of a
wealthy Italian businessman named Alberto Garcia, who happens to be best
friends with Takuma
Sakazaki.
When Robert was a boy, he was greatly inspired by the Kyokugen fighting style
and saw it as a way to escape from his father's shadow in the high class
society. Against his father's wishes, Robert trained under Takuma, where he
met and trained with his son, Ryo
Sakazaki.
Over time, Ryo and Robert became best friends. Robert also developed romantic
feelings for Ryo's sister, Yuri.
In fact, Robert has pretty much been infatuated with her ever since the first
time he saw her.
During the events of Art of Fighting, Geese
Howard blackmailed Takuma into working for him, which lead to Yuri being
kidnapped. After Yuri's disappearance, Ryo and Robert began searching all of
Southtown, particularly dojos, nightclubs, and restaurants for clues. After
beating the information out of several criminals, thugs, and martial artists,
they eventually learned that Mr.
Big was the mastermind behind Yuri's kidnapping. Thanks to the information
King gave them, they were
able to save Yuri from Mr. Big.
After the first King
of Fighters tournament (and during the events of AOF3), Robert
visited Central America to help Freia Lawrence, a childhood friend. She needed
help to save her friend Wyler.
Robert acted as Freia's bodyguard during their journey through Glasshill. Once
he saw his friends reconcile, he returned home and helped manage the family
company. Before he boarded the plane home, Yuri surprised him by having her
own ticket, and they returned to Italy together.
During the King of Fighters timeline, Robert aligned himself with
Takuma and Ryo to represent Kyokugen Karate in the tournament. Yuri later
joined the team, and Robert was overjoyed. When King replaced Yuri in KOF
2000, he was indignant about not having prior knowledge of Yuri's absence
and thought that it was just a scheme for Ryo to get closer to King. He
challenged King to prove her worth to the team and they engaged in a fearsome
kicking contest. Their match ended as a draw, and Robert agreed to let her
join. In KOF 2001, Robert and his family were faced with financial
problems. Thankfully, his friends and master agreed to help him out by winning
the tournament.
During The King of
Fighters 2003, Robert was out of financial trouble and decided to enter
the tournament once again. He was absent in The King of Fighters XI due
to trouble with his father's company, which required Robert's presence. He
finally managed to get enough free time to join the KOF XIII
tournament. After the tournament, Robert showed Takuma a wedding ring that he
got for Yuri, but Takuma disagreed. Afterwards, both of them ended up hitting
each other without Ryo, Yuri and King noticing them.
In Fatal Fury: City
of the Wolves, Robert Garcia appears as "Mr. Karate".
