Capcom Cup IX Set for February 2023, Marks the End of Street Fighter V's Competitive Run

Capcom has announced the official start date for Capcom Cup IX and released a new promotional trailer for the upcoming event taking place early next year. The trailer and announcement makes it clear that Capcom Cup IX will mark the "ending" of SFV's competitive run, as Capcom will be shifting the main focus to Street Fighter 6 moving forward in 2023. The tournament will mark the return of the Capcom Cup live event, as the previous event was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. Capcom Cup IX will take place at the Avalon Hollywood & Bardot in Los Angeles, California in early / mid February. Directly below is more information along with the official trailer.

Capcom Cup IX will be divided into several different phases. Last-Chance Qualifiers will take place on February 12th-13th, 2023 and will be followed by a Group Stage Elimination round on February 14th-16th, 2023. After those tournaments, the official Street Fighter League World Championship '22 begins February 17th-18th, 2023. And finally, the Capcom Cup IX World Finals will be live on February 19th, 2023 to decide the world champion.

With Capcom pivoting the competitive focus to Street Fighter 6 in 2023, it's very likely the company will announce or reveal something related to the game during the week of Capcom Cup IX — possibly on February 19th immediately following the conclusion of the Street Fighter V: Champion Edition World Finals. Stay tuned on Fighters Generation for continued coverage and upcoming Street Fighter 6 news and announcements!
