Sigma,
(formerly referred to as "Commander Sigma", is the main antagonist
of the Mega Man X series. He serves as the final boss in all games in
the series except Mega Man X: Command Mission (where he makes no
appearances) and Mega Man X8 (appearing as the final boss if the game
is played on easy, and as the penultimate boss if the game is set to normal or
hard difficulty, since Lumine is fought on normal or hard).
Sigma was considered
Dr. Cain's masterpiece and the finest of the Reploids, and was the first
leader of the Maverick Hunters; peace-keeping Reploids who defend humans
against their renegade counterparts known as Mavericks. Although he was once
honorable, Sigma unexpectedly goes Maverick in the beginning of Mega Man X
and rebels against humankind. He defects to the Mavericks and assumes the role
of their leader. Under Sigma's command, the Mavericks grow into a legion
dedicated to the extermination of the human race. Sigma instigates many of the
destructive Maverick Wars, with the Maverick Hunters existing to crush Sigma
and his minions.
Although he has been
destroyed countless times, Sigma's programming always survives and builds
himself a new form, ready to menace the world once again. It is implied that
he grows more insidious and vengeful with each transformation, with each
successive plan becoming more and more desperate and aggressive. His primary
enemies are
Mega Man X,
Zero, and more
recently, Axl.

Let's face it... not all of us made it to the end of the original Mega Man games. Those games were hard... and time-consuming. (Wait, it sounds like I'm talking about fighting games here.) Personally, I was never a big fan of Mega Man's style of platforming, although I did beat many 2D platformers
in my classic gaming days. We should be talking about Sigma here, but to be honest, the dude kinda bores me... sorry!
Even a diehard Megaman uber-fan speed-runner would have to admit that Sigma is not one of the "prettiest" designs from the series. Megaman is rich with vibrant robot-esk humanoid designs (or just cool-looking robots). Sigma??? All I see is the dude's noggin'... that forehead is not natural. As a character with a long-running history in Capcom
(mostly Megaman) games, I can see the point of him appearing in MVC: Infinite. However, I don't see the appeal or "coolness" of his design. I guess his cape looks cool in a few of the artworks, but to me, he just looks like a Japanese
Lex Luthor who you know is going to lose at the end of the movie. As a huge MVC fan since XMvsSF, Sigma did not excite me as an addition to the roster of MvC: Infinite. In gameplay, he turned out okay... but excitement in fighting games comes from more than just a decent moveset or two.
