Coming
from the Yunnan plateau, Shanwoo belongs to an ethnic minority. In his village
they had a tribal religion and Shanwoo was blessed with a sacred tattoo that
in times of crisis connects him to his divine totem and provides him with
unlimited strength and endurance. Shanwoo decides to enter the Xuan Dou
Tournament in an effort to financially support his people against poverty. On
Oct. 22nd, an upgraded version of the character known as "Neo"
Shanwoo was released. Visually, Neo Shanwoo has a black vest. He also has many
new moves which emphasize his grappling abilities.

Clearly a
powerhouse, Shanwoo is a well-rounded fighter in Xuan Dou Zhi Wang. He's
got the token hard-hitting punches & kicks, some cool grabs, and animates very
well overall. As far as his outfit goes, I think the designers left things
simple in the right places and gave him a decent amount of defining features.
However, as an overall character design, I thought he was missing
"something".
Ironically enough... On Oct. 22nd, Shanwoo's revised "Neo" version was
released. Now with a Terry Bogard-style
black vest and a ton of new grappling moves, he seems like a more fleshed out
character. Shanwoo definitely looks like more of a "fighter" than some other characters
in the game, which is a good thing. Also worth mentioning, his posture and
some of his animations definitely resemble Terry Bogard (especially his original
version).
I'm pretty sure the dev-team were looking at Terry's KOF13 sprite when
creating Shanwoo's sprite.
