Shiki had
her heart taken by Yuga and became
a slave of Yuga's. She is the Han-In no Onna, the half that is needed to
restore the dark god of Makai. Yuga, plotting to become the new dark god,
orders to find and capture Haohmaru,
the Han-You no Otoko. The other half needed to restore the dark god. But
her soul was freed after Haohmaru defeated Yuga. But a year later, Yuga
comes back from the dead. She meets Asra
who was sent to capture her but the two fall in love. After the two Asura's
defeat Yuga, she gives birth to Mikoto.
She leaves her child with Nicotine
and Haohmaru and leaves with the new Asura. The two died somewhere somehow.
Shiki is based off of
Ayanami Rei and Mugen no Jyuunin. Her sword is modeled after the katana

Shiki is a badass
and mysterious ninja chick. Visually, she's a very aesthetically pleasing and
artistically inspiring design. Just look at that artwork. Fun Fact: Shiki has
the same purple snake tattoo as Vega.
Shiki is probably one of the most underrated, yet coolest
females of the SNK universe. Even though the Samurai Shodown
series already had some incredible designs; as a "new" design to
the series, Shiki seemed like a cool addition to the roster. Unfortunately the SS64
series didn't go very far (and was limited to a Japanese release)... so Shiki's original debut was pretty quiet.
Us overseas fans at least got to appreciate the artwork. >_>
Thankfully, Shiki finally appeared in other 2D fighters, including: SNK Gals Fighters,
SVC Chaos, and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum. In NGBC, her 2D sprite &
animations came out pretty well (for an old school-style KOF sprite), but
overall... she seemed a bit tired and lazy in that game. Hopefully (and likely),
Shiki will appear in the new Samurai Shodown (2019) and be reimagined as a new design.
It'll be very interesting to finally see her in a classic 2D Samurai Shodown game.
