Sareena is a demon who first appeared in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero as a non-playable boss character. She was first playable in Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition for the Game Boy Advance and later in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. She is from the Netherealm and a former assassin for Quan Chi but turned against him. Her young and beautiful appearance hides her true form of a hideous demon. In the past, she required Quan Chi's magic to sustain her human form, but since recently escaping the Netherealm, she has managed to find a way to remain beautiful without him. She is now a force of good with an alliance to Sub-Zero and the new Lin Kuei, however she remains wary of her natural demonic nature.

Sareena is a "play-it-safe" design for the MK series. She's got the blatantly obvious Mortal Kombat-esk appearance (with some fake face tattoos for good measure), her name sounds blatantly Mortal Kombat-ish (rhyming with several other characters' names) and... overall, Sareena is basically a copypasta of several past MK designs. Is that bad? I dunno, but I personally don't think she's a particularly interesting character.

Then came her re-appearance in MK: Armageddon... and Midway gave Sareena the basic "MK stripper-ninja" treatment. I swear I once saw an MK knock-off costume in a Halloween store called "slutty ninja babe" which looked exactly like Sareena's outfit... lol. In MKA, Sareena is pretty much the epitome of what's wrong with most female designs in Mortal Kombat. Stripper ninja? Check. Bad case of man-face? Check. Random awkward loincloth? Check. Totally boring personality? Check. Cut & paste been-there-done-that fighting style? You get the point. Her shamelessly over-sexualized outfit and generic fighting style is nothing more than a cliché, at this point. This is a design that was made for bored 12 year old boys in the 90's (and she debuted in the 2000's). Her cameos in MK9, MKX, and MK11 were cute, albeit a bit forced. Sareena was late to the party. lol.
