Kyo's
father, Saisyu is the patriarch of the Kusanagi bloodline and master of the
sacred flame. Due to his Kusanagi heritage, Saisyu can control and create fire
from thin air. In battle, Saisyu wears an old fashioned style Kusanagi clan
outfit, unlike his son. He raised Kyo to carry on the legacy,
but deep inside he wants the fight with Yagami to end.
In 1994, Saisyu embarked on a quest to challenge fighters from around the
world. He heard
of the powerful Rugal and went to challenge him, but
was badly defeated. Vice then brainwashed Saisyu
to compete as a mid-boss in the tournament. When Team Japan finally reached Rugal, they first had to fight Saisyu. Many years later, Saisyu teaches Shingo so
that he can finally become almost as powerful as Kyo. His wife's name is Shizuka.
