In Mortal Kombat II, after hearing of Goro's death at the hands of Liu Kang, Kintaro vowed to avenge his comrade and crush Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat. Kintaro tried to prove his loyalty to Shao Kahn when he traveled to Earthrealm with a Tarkatan horde to defeat Johnny Cage. Although the attack failed due to the intervention of other Earthrealm warriors, Kintaro continued to serve Shao Kahn. After Shang Tsung was defeated again by Liu Kang, Kintaro then challenged Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat. Kintaro fought well, but lost.

In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon's Konquest mode, Kintaro is seen in the Netherealm along with Sheeva, Havik, and a legion of demons all apparently working in an attempt to overthrow Shinnok's rule at his spire. However, Shinnok later reveals that this was all created as a test for Taven, and that the Kintaro fought by him was an illusion.

Instead of bringing back Goro in MK2, Midway decided to go with a new four-armed boss... as if to say "Goro is dead now, since you beat him in the first game." I guess it was a good idea for the time... a big sequel should have a new boss. Kintaro passed as a cool and brutal sub boss in MK2. Also, for back then... he was an impressively large boss character.

Kintaro was always kinda awkward as a design... and his "epic" return in MK: Armageddon didn't do much for him, besides making him look even more awkward than ever thought possible. His 3D render in that game is just laughable. Kintaro returned yet again in MK9 and still has his awkward moments, but his MK9 incarnation is easily his best. On a side note, I don't think Kintaro's face was ever meant to be shown close up, because he never fails to look funny/stupid in close up renders... that's only a face a mother could love. lol.
