Bayman was born and
raised in Russia. He aspired to join the military, and became one of Russia's
highly-trained commandos. But before he saw any action, the Soviet Union
collapsed. Realizing the new regime would have no use for him, Bayman slipped
through the cracks of the reformation. He took up the life of a mercenary,
putting his skills to good use in all manner of lethal assignments. He found
particular pleasure in assassinations, especially challenging or high-profile
assignments.
He joined the first tournament to assassinate Fame Douglas. When
the DOA2 tournament
was announced, Bayman caught word of one of the entrants; an Italian mercenary
named Leon.
Bayman risked capture to enter the tournament again, hoping to find and
challenge his old acquaintance. In DOA3,
he enters once again, this time to retaliate against Donovan for the
attempt on his life by a sniper.
During the
Mugen Tenshin Ninja Clan's attack on the DOATEC headquarters in the fourth
tournament, Bayman manages to infiltrate and enter the building and he begins
his search for Donovan. He doesn't go completely unnoticed though and he is
challenged by Christie. The two battle but
Bayman fails and is captured by DOATEC, drugged and interrogated.
However, during the
chaos that erupted due to the shinobi attack, Bayman frees himself by stabbing
his own hand with a pen, using the ink to overcome the drug used on him. While
his interrogators flee, getting themselves killed in the process by running
into the path of a fierce explosion, Bayman sneers as the doors close him
inside the interrogation room. It is unknown what exactly happened to him
afterwards but he somehow manages to survive the event.
In DOA5, Bayman is
working as a mercenary and goes out to the Middle East on a mission with his
team. Suddenly, the group is attacked by an unknown assailant dressed with a
black cloak, and Bayman is the only survivor, who is left with a scar. He
later travels to the Freedom Survivor and meets with Helena, demanding an
explanation regarding the attack. But she denies any involvement of DOATEC and
herself, and Bayman leaves to find his answers.

Bayman is one of
the few who attempt to play the "badass dude card" in DOA, and even though he doesn't say much, his fighting style
does most of the talking for him. Although, his personality is
still a bit "2-dimensional" (especially for being in a 3D
fighting game) and his default outfit is on
the generic side, but he does have some cool alternate outfits.
In a game filled with over-sexualized females, one might wonder what Bayman is
even doing in DOA. He almost doesn't fit on the main roster. On that
note, he actually has something going for him, bringing cool grapple tech and "advanced" counters that other DOA fighters
don't have. On the downside, quite a few of his attacks are
downright sloppy, especially for a military guy. Even in DOA5, there
are so many punches and kicks that have poor technique. Some of Bayman's mannerisms and win poses are
also sickeningly plain and awkward... especially the one where he does that cute little spin and then
chops the air (I think that animation was originally meant for a female. lol).
Lastly, his facial rendering is embarrassingly generic in the early
games, but they sort of fixed that in DOA5. However, his head is still
way too big for his body. How does he not have a heatbutt as an attack?! -_-
