The King of Fighters XV Delayed to Q1 2022

KOF XV producer Yasuyuki Oda made the announcement that The King of Fighters XV release window has been postponed to the first quarter of 2022. The official statement from SNK confirms the continued rising cases of COVID-19 in Japan has affected the original development schedule for KOF XV and is the main cause for the delay. KOF XV was originally announced back at EVO 2019 with the logo reveal, but it wasn't until early this year that the first gameplay footage was shown. The visuals have even evolved and improved over the past few months in recent trailers, and SNK reaffirmed that the decision for the delay is to ensure the "quality" of KOF XV. A message from KOF XV producer, Yasuyuki Oda

There are many fans who are anticipating the release of KOF XV in 2021, however at this point in time, we unfortunately have to announce that KOF XV will now be launching within the 1st quarter of 2022.

The development timeline we set out to reach in the beginning has been affected by the ever-still rising cases of COVID-19 within Japan. We have made the ultimate decision in the end that the product’s quality must come first, and so with that decision comes an altered release window.

We sincerely ask for your kind patience and understanding as our development teams continue to work hard on KOF XV as we draw closer to its release.

It's unclear how this decision will impact SNK's "Wednesday Night KOF XV" character reveals moving forward, but as far as tonight's reveal goes, SNK confirmed that a gameplay trailer for Samurai Shodown's Amakusa will debut this evening at 10pm (EST) in place of the next KOF XV reveal.

To put things in perspective... judging by the current release schedule of KOF XV trailers, the game was looking like a late Q3-Q4 release prior to the postponement. So the delay is essentially just a few months.
Stay tuned on TFG for upcoming KOF XV news.
