Wan-Fu is a warrior
king hailing from China. He's a member of a powerful ruling family and a general in the Qing Dynasty. With his cunning battle strategies and powerful army, Wan-fu seeks to unify all of China. Hearing news of "powerful warriors" gathering in Japan, he sets out in hopes of recruiting
them. After
Amakusa's defeat, he fails to find any "powerful warriors". A prophet appears before the furious Wan-Fu and informs him of the existence of the "Seed of Destruction", which, in exchange for one's soul, can allow its possessors to rule the world. Determined to find it
all costs, as his hope of uniting China would no longer be a mere dream, he leaves his homeland again to obtain it.
In the Samurai Shodown RPG, Wan-Fu is still recruiting for warriors for his army. In the second chapter, he protects Beijing along with his older brother, Wan-Ron. Together, they are fine warriors and are loved by the people in the capital. However, demons infiltrate their home and brainwash both
brothers to be their slaves. The neglect from their protectors brings famine to the city, and protesting citizens are imprisoned to be eaten by the demons. With the party's help, Wan-Fu breaks free of his mind control and saves his brother and people.
In Samurai Shodown Sen, Wan-fu had returned to his home country. His son contracts a terrible disease that cannot be cured by any of the emperor's doctors. Angered that his country couldn't help his son's plight, he leaves China again to find a cure.
Wan-Fu is one of the few Samurai Shodown characters who fights using different weapons in each game. In the first Samurai Shodown, Wan-Fu fights with a Chinese scimitar. In Samurai Shodown 2, he fights with a giant stone pillar (which was apparently ripped out of a temple). Later in
Samurai Shodown 6, he fights using a Chuí (metallic mace).
Wan-Fu's design is loosely based on Miyoshi Seikai, one of the warriors from the Ten Heroes of Sanada.

Wan-Fu's original
debut in Samurai Shodown was slightly boring... he was pretty much just
labeled as "the fat guy with the scimitar". However, his redesign in SS2 turned out much better.
In SS2, he fights with a huge stone slab of a weapon
and packs a set of rock-hard abs... yes, Wan-Fu is a beast in SS2. Not
only due to the way he looks, but his innovative, intense, and fun-to-use
fighting style.
I didn't think Wan-Fu would ever make a comeback in the series after SS2, but lo
& behold he returned in Samurai Shodown 6 (and Sen). However, his new weapon
& moves are a bit uninspiring and he seems to have put back on the pot
belly. What's with switching your weapons all the time Wan Fu??? Geez, make up your
damn mind and stick to it!!! lol. I think any Samurai Shodown fan would agree
that SS2 was easily Wan-Fu's best appearance. On a side note, his SS2
stage music was freakin' epic... that tune still gets stuck in my head.
