True Ogre was a
original-looking and badass beast in Tekken 3. He made a decent final
boss... but in my opinion, he never really fit into the heart & soul of Tekken.
However, he was pretty fun to use and fight against back in the day. His return in Tekken
Tag was also pretty cool, although he still borrowed many moves from
other characters. For the record, I think Ogre's "original" design
is cooler (Ancient Ogre)... however, I'll admit that True Ogre does offer
something completely original in the Tekken series, and breaks up the monotony
of serious martial arts fighters. So in that sense, he can be called effective
in the series.
I was surprised so see Namco bring True Ogre back in Tekken Tag 2...
pleasantly surprised. While I still don't think he "fits in", his
updated moveset and heavily detailed character model is no doubt very
impressive. Yet again, True Ogre makes for an effective boss... *ehem* one of
the effective bosses of TTT2. ;) Also worth mentioning... some of his
customizations in TTT2 are awesome (and hilarious). Taking True Ogre to color
edit mode is also too much fun. :)
