Though he looks like
him, Rasetsumaru is not Haohmaru or
related to him in any way. In reality, he is a bloodthirsty
demon from the dark world of Makai, opened up by Amakusa many years earlier.
He learns about the existence of Haohmaru, a so-called skilled warrior
who looks like him. Calling him a "copycat", Rasetsumaru now searches for
Haohmaru to kill him.

Ohh SNK, why'd
you have to go and give Haohmaru the "basic Evil
Ryu treatment? The "basic blend" Evil Ryu mix, at that. *sigh* I guess it was inevitable... Samurai Shodown 5?
Yeah, sounds about the right time for an evil palette swap of
the main protagonist... -__-
While the concept of a "what
if?" evil Haohmaru seems halfway interesting (since I like Haohmaru), it's weird that the devs made Rasetsumaru a
"completely different" character, who actually thinks Haohmaru. Yeah... shit got weird later in the series. Even if you like the concept, it
doesn't change the fact that Rasetsumaru is a cheap sprite clone. Considering the many other sprite clones in SSV, it's not a "good look" for the game. Yeah, Raset has some of his own moves... but most of his unique animations look rushed and cheap. The design had potential, but the presentation wasn't really there. Nonetheless, I will say that most of Rasetsumaru's official character artwork looks pretty
damn awesome. It counts for something.
