BIO:

Potemkin is a former slave soldier of Zepp, a militaristic nation that maintains a society based on science and technology. Having taken the rest of the slave soldiers hostage, he was sentenced by his superior to enter the tournament. During the tournament, he learned that a coup d'etat was in progress. In the end, the coup d'etat succeeded and Zepp was freed from its dictatorship. President Gabriel, Potemkin's former instructor, summoned him for a secret mission; to protect a Gear from the bounty hunters and bring it back safely to Zepp. Though Potemkin is unable to discern the mission's true motive, he decides to trust his former master, and accepts the mission.

For a "big guy" design, he's definitely a unique-looking bloke in the fighting game universe. Hey, at least he's not another freakin' wrestler. lol. Besides having laughably stubby legs and being completely out of proportion (and being inspired by Juggernaut), Potemkin's debut in the early part of the series wasn't bad. I think his awkward/goofy looking normal moves and the generic aspects of his design held him back early on. His personality was also kinda hard to read, and sometimes he seems more awkward and "dumb" than anything else.

That brings us to Potemkin's redesign in Guilty Gear Xrd, somewhat inspired by Alphonse Elric of Full Metal Alchemist. I think his new armor complimented Pot's proportions, making him look less goofy. His knightly design was fleshed out further in STRIVE, easily the pinnacle of his design. After all these years, Pot still has most of his classic / awkward-looking moves... but seeing the improved animation of these moves in the Xrd / STRIVE is really cool for old school fighting game players.
