BIO:

Zato is the leader of an organization of assassins, who gained the ability to manipulate shadows in exchange for his vision. Originally a lowly assassin, he gained new power through a forbidden ritual, which allowed him to rise to his present position. The repeated battles of the last tournament took their toll on him, and the shadow seized control of his body. The shadow was cognizant that it was created as a weapon and that its intentions of murder and destruction were only programmed instincts. It had developed the will of its own; the ability to break away from its cursed fate. This newborn soul could not understand humans, and was filled with loneliness. While in search for others like it, the shadow comes across the rumor of the Gear. He is named after the blind swordsman Zatoichi, which is how "Zato-1" would be said in Japanese.

Zato-1 is the first fighting game character that fights with his shadow, but certainly wasn't the last. The various entities/monsters his shadow can turn into are clearly the strong point of his design... not to mention they look totally badass in the game. Due to his originality, he's naturally a cool and interesting design, although he doesn't have the "best" outfit design we've seen come out of the Guilty Gear series. I wouldn't call his outfit "bad," but I'm not sure that his skin-tight, generic spandex outfit is still working for him after all these years. lol. In any case, he is one of the coolest characters from the Guilty Gear series and he has some badass animations (don't you dare miss his awesome animations pages below).
