Again,
the oracle of the forge god Hephaestus prophesies that a warrior must go
forth to destroy the power of Soul Edge. In this case, the responsibility
falls to Cassandra,
Sophitia's
younger sister, after a terrible accident -- another of these strange shards
of metal maims one of Sophitia's children. Cassandra thus returns to the
god's temple and takes up her sister's old weapons and armor, scarred though
they are by the track of Soul Edge. She travels east, following a strange
light in the sky. Fun Fact: In the Soul
Edge Official Handbook ~Chronicle~, Cassandra is revealed to be the
reincarnation of the goddess Aphrodite. (However, this plot point appears to
have been scrapped and is likely non-canon.)

Gotta love a name with a nice ring to it. Such a pretty name. Honestly, when I first saw Cassandra in SC2, she struck me as kind of bland and a bit of a "repeat". Didn't they already do this design with Sophitia? Cassandra just seems like a younger version of the same character. TEKKEN 3 much?
On the contrary, I later came to appreciate Cassandra's unique moveset & animations, a different "take" on Athenian-style sword & shield fighting. Even when she debuted in SC2, most of her moveset was completely unique and different from Sophitia's. She wasn't one of my go-to characters, however, but I still think Namco did a pretty
good job with her design.
Cassandra was further fleshed out in SC3, 4, and 6... but in my opinion, she remained a "sleeper" design in the series. With Sophitia still appearing in many of the sequels, Cassandra never seemed like a "necessary" part of the Soul Calibur roster. However, her visual designs are always intricate and ornate. She also has a
"cuteness" factor that's hard to match. Some of her alternate costumes
throughout the series were also pretty memorable, including her one from Valkyrie (based on Namco's 1989 action RPG).
