Fans who haven't already picked up Samurai Shodown (2019) on PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch might still be waiting for news from SNK about the PC version release. While it
was assumed SNK's 2.5D weapon-based fighter would be coming to Steam this year, Epic Games confirmed Samurai Shodown is coming to the Epic Games Store in Spring 2020 - likely an exclusive. (So far, SNK hasn't confirmed whether or not it will be an Epic Games Store exclusive, timed or permanently.) The news has already received a
"mostly negative" reaction from PC gamers, as you might be able to tell from the dislike bar and comments in Epic Games Store's Spring 2020 "sizzle reel" video below.
The reason for the negative reaction is partly due to Epic Game Store's recent practice of "buying" exclusives to compete with Steam. In short, the end result is a much smaller player base and online community - which for a modern fighting game, is an important thing. Furthermore,
Epic Games Store doesn't feature controller support or crossplay, making it a fundamentally inferior platform for fighting games compared to Steam.
SNK previously said Samurai Shodown (2019) wouldn't be "exclusive" on any platforms... so the game's arrival on Epic Games Store seems contradictory to their previous statement. However, it's "possible" that Samurai Shodown (2019) will be a timed exclusive on Epic Games Store and will still be released on Steam later
down the road. Considering it's already been 9 months since the game's console release, this might not be the news fighting game players on Steam were hoping to hear. Either way, we'll keep you updated on any official statements made by SNK.
