When Kazuya
took over the
Mishima Zaibatsu from Heihachi,
the Zaibatsu became more corrupt than ever and engaged in many illegal
activities such as assassination, extortion, drug dealing and the smuggling of
species. Kazuya also recruited Doctor
Boskonovitch
to work for him. One of the projects he was commanded to work on was creating
genetically engineered creatures. Through Bosconovitch, modified animals were
created with DNA samples. Roger was created from Kangaroo DNA, whereas Alex
was created using DNA from Dromaeosaurid fossil samples. Roger's
son, Roger
Jr., took his place in the later of the Tekken tournament. Even though
Roger himself hasn't been a playable character in a Tekken game since TTT1,
he does appear in Roger Jr.'s story prologues & endings later in the

A boxing kangaroo
made an instant hit fighting game character (especially as a secret,
unlockable character). Roger debuted as a clever comic relief character in Tekken 2...
breaking up the monotony of "serious" martial arts fighters and
showing off Namco's sense of humor (which was a great thing to see in the
fighting genre at that time). Originally, Roger had a
few cool moves here or there, but mostly borrowed moves from other Tekken
characters. Even so, he looks hilarious no matter what he does.
In Tekken 5, his son (Roger Jr.) took his place in the series,
presenting a completely new moveset which no longer borrowed from other Tekken
fighters (for the most part). And if for some reason you don't think a kangaroo has
a right to be in a fighting game, I dare you to fly to Australia, put your fists
up, and pick a fight with an adult male Kangaroo. I bet you'll run away.
