Necro used to be a normal boy named Illia who lived in a small village in Moscow. He set out to search for a better life, and encountered Gill and his organization, the Illuminati. Illia was promised a better life but Gill tricked him into becoming an experiment. Illia's body and DNA was altered, enabling him to stretch his limbs and produce electricity from his body. He gained these powers at the cost of leaving him looking like a mutant. A cybernetic computer was implanted into his brain that also enhanced his fighting abilities.

Illia, now named Necro, entered the third Street Fighter tournament. Inside, he saw the tournament as a way reclaim his freedom and get revenge on Gill. However, Necro was tricked again, as Gill left him trapped and tied up in the base that was about to self-destruct. However, Necro's companion Effie managed to save him and they managed to escape. After their escape they had their first taste of freedom, but Gill's organization were still tracking them.

Necro obviously took the place of Dhalsim in the SFIII series, presenting his own unique style of "keep away" fighting... which also involves stretching his limbs inhumanly far. A few of Necro's moves definitely have similar properties to Dhalsim's, but Necro's moveset is entirely original otherwise. He's got a handful of unique attacks coming from all different directions, and all presented with amazingly fluid 2D animation.

Necro is definitely one of the most bizarre characters in the Street Fighter universe... but he's not too over-the-top (and hey, at least he wears pants). He's actually one of my personal favorite "freak" designs in nay fighting game, and I have to say I actually like him more than Dhalsim. Necro has a mysterious & dark aura about him and a charismatic "presence" when he's on screen. All the while, he manages to be cool as well... which isn't always easy for a fighting game "freak".
