BIO:

Link is the name of every protagonist in The Legend of Zelda series. There are many incarnations of Link, each possessing the Spirit of the Hero. Link is always depicted as a courageous young boy or teenager in green clothing who leaves his home and relatives to pursue his destiny: fighting the evil forces threatening the land. On his journey, he learns to make use of various weapons and items, and eventually overcomes the enemies and obstacles in his path. After advancing through the Overworld and its dungeons, Link ultimately vanquishes his enemies and becomes a legendary hero. He is one of the most iconic and most popular protagonists in video game history.

Link's Soul Calibur II storyline is as follows: Once upon a time, Hyrule's tranquility was shattered by the arrival of several disasters. The calamities brought dark, ominous clouds that shut out the sun. Surprisingly, a lone magician was to blame for the disasters. About the time when people were losing all hope, the sun miraculously returned. Link, who was summoned by Zelda to find the cause of the disasters, succeeded in defeating the magician. The people of Hyrule rejoiced in the belief that eternal peace would rule.

Unfortunately, this was not to be. It became clear that the magician responsible for the disasters was in fact controlled by the evil sword known as the Soul Edge, which existed in an another world. Furthermore, the fragments of the Soul Edge were gathering together in this other world. Knowing that the resurrection of the evil blade must be prevented at all costs, Link chose to travel to the other world and destroy the Soul Edge. Link gathered his trusted Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and ocarina and set off on a secret journey.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was one of the first SNES games I owned... I loved everything about that game. 25+ years later, I would convince my wife to play through the entire game on her own (and she loved it too. Good times.) Link is a legendary and loveable video game icon. Anyone who calls themselves an "old school gamer" probably has a special place in their heart for the Zelda series. In 2003, was pleasantly surprised when Link was announced for the Gamecube version of Soul Calibur 2 as a guest character.

Link fit into SC2's roster nicely. Seeing Link drawn and animated the "Namco way" was a real treat. Namco brilliantly captured Link's persona and redefined his moveset in SC2, fleshing out his fighting style to a new level (Link never had so many moves)! Needless to say, Link's fighting game debut in SC2 was amazing. I imagine his guest appearance got many new players into the Soul series. On a side note: I mainly played the PS2 version... so Link's SC2 arrival actually didn't have a huge impact my SC2 experience. (I was all about Heihachi.)
