A black Shaolin monk? Cool. I thought Kai was a halfway decent design in MK4. He debuted with a simple, cool appearance for a Shaolin warrior and had some fairly interesting special moves. His original look wasn't terrible... but for some reason, the ever-brilliant Midway decided to completely change his design in MK: Armageddon... and wow did they mess up his design.

Kai's Armageddon design is atrocious, like many returning characters in that game. When bringing back a classic character from a franchise after so many years, it's wise to keep the integrity of the character somewhat intact. The devs didn't use common sense and completely changed his design beyond the point of recognition. Poor Kai didn't age well and even has an entirely different facial structure from his first appearance, not to mention a bad haircut and terrible-looking bulky armor that would look better suited in a generic FPS. Kai went from Shaolin Monk to level 1 Quake grunt. That bulky melon-colored armor is just... wow. Good going Midway, way to ruin a design. Just one of the reasons MK: Armageddon was a disgrace and the worst MK game I ever played.
