A black Shaolin monk? Cool! I thought Kai was a halfway decent design in MK4. He debuted with a simple, cool appearance for a Shaolin Monk warrior and had some pretty neat special moves too. His original look worked... but for some reason, the brilliant people over at Midway decided to completely change his design in MK: Armageddon... and good god did they mess it up.

Kai's design in Armageddon is atrocious, like many other returning characters in that game. FACT: When bringing back a classic character from a franchise after so many years, it's wise to keep the integrity of the character somewhat intact. The Midway dev-team obviously had no common sense, because they made Kai look like a completely different character. No continuity. The poor guy looks like he aged about 370 years, has entirely different facial structure, different haircut, and has hideous, bulky armor that looks like it's from a random FPS / MMO game. He went from cool Shaolin Monk... to level 1 Quake grunt. ^o^ That bulky melon-colored armor.... Wow. Is that how we remember Kai, Midway? Way to ruin a design. This is just one of the reasons MK: Armageddon was a disgrace.
